How Pay Monthly Websites Work
Instead of paying a designer £1,000 or more before the site goes live, you pay a fixed amount each month. That payment normally covers the build, the hosting and some level of looking after the site. There are two main types of deal:
- Rental: you pay for as long as you want the website. Stop paying and the site goes offline. You never own it.
- Pay it off: you make a set number of payments, and then the website belongs to you.
Both can be fair deals. What matters is that you know which one you are signing up to.
Five Questions to Ask Before You Sign Up
- Will I ever own the website? If so, after how many payments, and is there a fee at the end?
- Is there a setup fee? Some “from £X a month” offers add a few hundred pounds on day one.
- What happens after the minimum term? Does the price drop, stay the same, or go up?
- Can I edit the site myself? Or do I pay every time I want to change opening hours or add a photo?
- Who owns the domain name? It should be registered to you, so the address stays yours whatever happens.

The monthly plan costs less in the first year because hosting is included in the £49. Paying upfront makes sense if you want to own the site from day one.
Is Pay Monthly Right for Your Business?
